Western Resource Advocates is working to improve poor air quality in and around some of Utah’s most populated cities. Air pollution along Utah’s Wasatch Front, the corridor of cities and towns including Salt Lake City, Provo, and Ogden where most Utahns live, is a deadly threat to people and the natural environment.

Unacceptably high levels of pollutants pose serious health hazards to everyone, and especially the most vulnerable populations in this area. Particulate matter and ozone cause asthma and thousands of premature deaths each year, as well as increases in heart attacks, strokes, and other diseases. On particularly bad air quality days, such as during wintertime inversions, this problem is so severe that children cannot play at recess and the elderly are cautioned to stay indoors. Everyone is discouraged from exercising outside.

Utah residents have a right to breathe clean air. We partner with organization such as HEAL Utah, Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment, FRIENDS of Great Salt Lake, and the Utah Chapter of the Sierra Club to address this critical problem.
