The Colorado River provides water to millions of people, supports world class recreation, gives life to Western communities, and sustains critical wildlife habitat as it winds its way through some of the most treasured and sacred landscapes in the nation.
All across the West, we are connected by this one, powerful river. Growing water demands and climate change threaten the river and our collective way of life. But we believe that the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the region will allow us to step up to meet these challenges. If we work together, we can secure a bright future for the Colorado River.
The river has long been at the center of heated debates over its limited water. Today, key negotiations are underway that will shape how the river is managed for years to come. To protect the Colorado River and create a brighter future for water in the West, we must first remember the ways in which it connects and inspires each of us.

I spend a lot of time at work thinking about and talking about the Colorado River and its future, but being on it is a different experience. To think that the water I’m dipping my oars into supports 35 million people across 7 states, 30 sovereign Tribal nations, and Mexico, and even more fish and wildlife, is humbling. I'm grateful to dedicate my time to this mighty and precious river that has brought me so much relaxation, pleasure, and deeper connection with nature and the people in my life.
