Western Resource Advocates’ President Jon Goldin-Dubois today released the following statement upon the Biden administration’s restoration of Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears national monuments:

“Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears are awe-inspiring treasures and today is day of celebration for the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition in this victory to protect their sacred lands. WRA applauds the tribal nations, President Biden, Secretary Haaland, and all who worked tirelessly over the last few years to support restoring these national monuments to their original boundaries following an unprecedented attack on them. Doing so will protect the monuments’ extraordinary landscapes, rich biodiversity, and unique and irreplaceable historical and cultural artifacts. As climate change continues to put further stress on natural areas and ecosystems, there is still more work to do to safeguard Western lands so future generations can experience them, particularly Indigenous communities who have called these lands home since time immemorial. We urge the administration and state and federal leaders to keep the momentum going, and make progress toward protecting 30% of lands and waters by 2030.”
