Utah Government Affairs Manager

Department

Government Affairs

Office Location

Utah

Area of Focus

As the Utah Government Affairs Manager, Riley works with public officials at the state and local levels to help ensure that legislative actions help WRA achieve its vision and goals. This includes meeting with public officials and legislators, participating in committee meetings, and coordinating with other non-governmental organizations to build the coalition necessary to have an effect in Utah.

Background

Previous to working for WRA, Riley was employed by the state of Utah, serving as an election specialist for three years and spending two years as the Director of Administrative Services for Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson. As an election specialist, Riley took the lead on making any changes to the law concerning lobbyist regulations and campaign finance law, while also serving as a resource to cities and counties by providing training sessions and presentations to county clerks and city recorders, along with their staff. As Lieutenant Governor Henderson’s Administrative Director, Riley oversaw the staff members assigned to handle notary administration, public records requests, municipal annexations and boundary changes, the city incorporation process, document authentication, as well as the day-to-day functions of the Lieutenant Governor’s Office.

In January 2023, Riley left the LG’s office to take a position as the training and process manager at the Department of Commerce, Division of Corporations and Commercial Code. In this role, Riley implemented and coordinated the division’s training schedule while hosting the training sessions myself. As the process manager, Riley was the internal auditor for the division, reviewing processes and requirements for the division to ensure they were in compliance with Utah law and providing recommendations for any changes that needed to be made within the office or within the statute to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

 Favorite Thing about the West

There’s so much to love about the West. The mountain ranges, the diversity of nature, the beauty of the four seasons (five if you include construction season), and so much more. I love how easy it is to access parks that allow my wife and I to go camping during the spring and summer, and the trails that we enjoy riding our bikes and motorcycles on. The West is truly a wonderful place to be.
