Area of Focus:

Ken is leading Western Resource Advocates’ grid modernization effort, on utility transmission and distribution grids. On the distribution side, he advocates for investments in smart grid technology that will facilitate more energy efficiency options and allow more distributed generation.

Background:

Ken worked for 18 years at Bell Labs on network architecture, network performance, network reliability and cellular telephony. For 10 years after Bell Labs, he ran his own engineering consulting business as an expert witness in telecommunications and then for five years as an expert in smart grid technology. He also served for six years as a city council member in Boulder, Colorado. He joined WRA in 2012.

Education:

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and a BS in EE from Oklahoma State University. He recently completed a Master’s degree in Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Hiking and camping in the mountain wilderness areas, which he has been doing for over 60 years, though now he does more reminiscing about those adventures while processing tens of thousands of pictures he took when a bit younger.
