Area of Focus
As the Associate Director of Annual Giving, Astrid Monar leads WRA’s annual giving program. She develops and executes annual fundraising strategies, manages the annual donor pipeline, and works closely with frontline fundraisers, Marketing & Communications, and senior leadership to ensure a coordinated, donor-centered approach to fundraising.
Background
A North Carolina native, Astrid spent summers digging up turnips, shucking corn, and helping on her family’s farm. Those early experiences fostered a lifelong appreciation for the land and the people who depend on it. After graduating, she moved West, a decision that ultimately shaped both her career and her connection to the landscapes she now calls home. In Colorado, she discovered a passion for fundraising for environmental causes, finding purpose in connecting people to the places they live, work, and play. She believes fundraising is ultimately about relationships, trust, and helping people see the difference their generosity makes.
Outside of work, Astrid is an avid outdoor adventurer who enjoys exploring the mountains, rivers, and public lands of the West with her husband and friends—places that continue to inspire her commitment to conservation. She also serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for Rocky Mountain Women’s Film, supporting its mission to celebrate film and elevate diverse voices.
Accomplishments
At her previous organization, Astrid helped transform the organization’s fundraising program by leading donor communications, stewardship, and engagement strategies that strengthened retention and annual giving. She developed data-informed systems and campaigns that achieved up to 85% donor retention, increased annual fund revenue by 17%, and donor base by 18% in one year. Her work blended strategic fundraising with authentic relationship building to deepen donor engagement and foster a culture of philanthropy.
