President Trump today issued executive orders to roll back the Clean Power Plan, which had been set to reduce carbon pollution by nearly one-third by 2030, compared to 2005 levels.

Steve Michel, Western Resource Advocates (WRA) Clean Energy Program Chief of Policy Development, made the following statement:

“The Trump administration’s rollback of the Clean Power Plan is in direct opposition to Western values and fails to follow the clean energy path that many Western states are already pursuing.

Recent polling shows strong support among Republican, Democrat, and Independent voters for clean energy. For example,  65% of Western voters prefer solar and wind power over other energy sources. Many Western legislators and governors have responded to this popular support for clean energy by positioning their states to comply with or to surpass the Clean Power Plan’s goals.

We urge Western governors to continue to stand with their constituents, to ensure thriving communities, and to protect our health by leading bipartisan, state-level efforts to advance clean energy.
