The Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is a win for the West

Western Resource Advocates celebrates the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passage as a win for Western rivers, ecosystem restoration, and climate resilience, but it is only the first step. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is a step in the right direction and we applaud lawmakers across WRA’s region for supporting its passage. The bill’s $8.3 billion for Western water will provide critical support for rivers, climate resilience projects, ecosystem restoration, and drought relief that will help the Colorado River Basin as it confronts a new climate abnormal. Additionally, it provides much needed funding to build out the first-ever national network of electric vehicle charging stations across the country as well as upgrades to the power infrastructure to facilitate the expansion of renewable energy,” said Maria Nájera, government affairs director for Western Resource Advocates.

Maria Najera WRAHowever, Congress must now shift its focus toward adequately addressing the climate crisis and its devastating impacts. It is imperative that federal lawmakers quickly pass a budget reconciliation measure that prioritizes the climate, clean energy, and environmental investments that are necessary to protect lives and livelihoods across the West while creating millions of good paying jobs, safeguarding our natural places, and addressing environmental injustices. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity and our federal lawmakers cannot miss it.”
