The West’s ability to cut carbon pollution and transition to clean energy depends heavily on updating our electricity distribution systems. Grids throughout the West are old, inefficient, and not optimized to support more clean energy and technologies like electric vehicles. Furthermore, our grids are fragmented, impeding our ability to source cheaper renewable energy from across the region.
We’re working to update grids with modern technology like batteries, advanced meters, and voltage optimization, and to advance a regional market for energy. These strategies help mitigate climate change, accelerate the transition to clean energy, increase the resilience of the grid to disasters, and save customers money.
