Whether it’s clear mountain lakes, cool rushing rivers, winding desert canyons, or soaring Colorado 14ers, it’s easy to fall in love with the incredible region we call home.
For the entire month of February, we at WRA will be asking you to Show your LOVE for the West. As a native of the West, I consider myself very fortunate to be in the position not only to live and raise my family here, but also to have my work focused on protecting this beautiful part of the world.
As President of Western Resource Advocates, I have the pleasure and opportunity to interact with diverse people throughout the region who all love the West in different ways—whether it’s partners who are collaborating with us to find solutions to our conservation issues, outdoorists seeking adventure or peace and serenity, legislators who are adding their voice and influence to protect our western resources, or donors who show their love through contributions to support our work, we all share one common motive—We LOVE the West!
As WRA asks supporters like you to show your LOVE for the West, it seems fitting for me to share this story about how two friends of mine have made protecting this region an important part of their lives—recently demonstrating their profound commitment to one another and their love for the West in an inspiring way:
Eli and Averill were introduced to one another through their work with Western Resource Advocates and were drawn together by their passion for the West. Through their shared desire to protect the places they cherish, they found each other and the match was a perfect fit.
As they planned their wedding, Eli and Averill made a decision to use the occasion as another opportunity to support our work to Protect the West. They shared this message with friends, family, and well-wishers:
Dearest Friends and Family,
As many of you know, Eli and I share a deep appreciation for our wild western landscapes – not only because these awe-inspiring places bring us personal joy, but more critically because the health of these environments are essential to millions of lives.
It is this passion for the West, in fact, that brought us together. We met through our involvement with a non-profit called Western Resource Advocates – Eli as a board member and Averill on the communications front.
Western Resource Advocates protects the West’s land, air, and water to ensure that vibrant communities exist in balance with nature. WRA’s work includes advancing common sense conservation measures that keep water in western rivers like the Colorado River.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering a gift to Western Resource Advocates in honor of our marriage. We are confident in WRA’s ability to Protect the West for generations to come.
At their beautiful winter wedding in January, surrounded by friends and family, in full view of a snowy Mt. Werner in Steamboat, Colorado, Eli and Averill tied the knot. We are so proud to count Eli and Averill as part of the Western Resource Advocates family, and deeply touched by their generosity and support. People like Eli and Averill, and people like you, give me confidence and hope that we will protect what we love. We know that like them, the West holds a special place in your heart.
