New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham just signed SB9 into law!
This legislation will establish a permanent conservation trust, called “The Land of Enchantment Legacy Fund,” to leverage federal money and deliver critical resources to New Mexican communities.

The benefits of creating this new trust include:
- Increasing jobs in the state’s growing outdoor industry.
- Making outdoor recreation more accessible for all New Mexicans.
- Protecting our land, watersheds, and wildlife.
- Supporting rural and agricultural communities.
Plus, it is a significant step toward addressing the climate threats facing New Mexico. It will help mitigate the damage done by floods, fires, and other extreme weather, helping our communities protect and preserve our natural resources.

Currently, the trust is funded with a $100 million appropriation. This is an exciting start! To ensure it can meet the needs of New Mexico communities in perpetuity, the next step is to ensure the state adds additional funding in coming years.
