Support water conservation in Colorado!

Unused, thirsty turfgrass puts unnecessary strain on our water supplies.

Tell your Senator to vote yes on House Bill 1113!

About 50% of municipal water is used outdoors, and much of that is used to water thirsty turfgrass. But a lot of that turfgrass is “nonfunctional” – grass that is only walked on when mowed. It doesn’t make sense to pour our valuable water on thirsty grass that is rarely used.

Colorado communities have already put a lot of effort into saving water by replacing nonfunctional turfgrass with waterwise landscaping. HB1113 supports these efforts by building on the progress we’ve already made.

Last year, we successfully prohibited the installation of nonfunctional turf, artificial turf, and invasive plants on non-residential properties for new development and certain redevelopment projects. HB1113 extends these prohibitions to new and redeveloped apartments and condos. It also asks communities to develop strategies to limit thirsty turfgrass in new and redeveloped single family residential properties. Tell your Senator: Vote yes on HB1113!
