We know that the great outdoors is one of Colorado’s best assets, but right now it is under threat.

Colorado just experienced its worst snowpack on record, and the impacts of record-breaking drought are straining our water supplies and worsening wildfire risk. On top of that, approximately 80% of the state’s land lacks permanent protection and could be lost to development.
Forest and wildfire scientists estimate that Colorado needs up to $200 million more every year to limit the risk of catastrophic wildfire, conserve clean water supplies, and protect the state’s most important lands and waters from development.
That’s why WRA and our partners worked to get Proposition 137 on the November ballot.
Prop 137 provides Coloradans the chance to act now and protect the state’s most treasured asset — nature.
Without raising taxes, the measure would invest approximately $175 million per year by directing the existing sales tax collected on sporting goods to programs that protect Colorado’s clean drinking water, help prevent devastating wildfires, conserve land and habitat, expand outdoor recreation opportunities, and support the outdoor economy that sustains communities across this state.
Proposition 137 would fund:
- Science-backed tools to help prevent severe wildfires and help communities better plan for wildfires
- Conservation of clean drinking water and flowing rivers across the state
- The creation of new state parks and recreation areas
- Better maintenance of trails and recreation infrastructure
- Increased outdoor access and experiences for youth and families that have traditionally lacked access
- Support for a thriving outdoor industry economy through workforce development programs
But we can’t get Prop 137 across the finish line without your support!
We need vocal advocates to champion this initiative statewide. Your voice is critical in supporting Colorado’s land and water.
