Staff Attorney, Utah Office

  [email protected]

Program/Department: Healthy Rivers, Western Lands

Office Location: Utah

Area of Focus:

Rob’s focus is on protecting the land, air and water of Utah. Representing a diverse group of NGOs, Rob first attempts to convince state and federal agencies to carry out the strict regulatory oversight that is necessary in order to preserve and protect Utah’s unique natural resources for future generations. Failing that, he oversees whatever legal actions are appropriate under the circumstances. Currently, his main area of focus is stopping commercial-scale tar sands and oil shale development in eastern Utah. He also works on issues related to Great Salt Lake, air quality along the Wasatch Front, damage from ORV use and oil and gas development in Utah’s national forests, and on encouraging Rocky Mountain Power to retire its coal plant fleet in favor of energy efficiency and development of renewable energy.

Rob joined Western Resource Advocates in 2009. Immediately before joining Western Resource Advocates, he was President/CEO of a home building and residential development company, and a partner in a real estate brokerage. Rob had a distinguished career in the military, including several years as a Minuteman Missile combat crew commander and a Russian cryptologic linguist. He was also responsible for monitoring nuclear weapons production in the former Soviet Union to ensure compliance with arms reductions treaties. He completed his military service at the rank of major.

B.A. in Business Management from the University of Maryland, a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Montana, and his Juris Doctorate, Certificate in Environmental & Natural Resource Law, from the University of Utah, College of Law, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
